The Last Leg of the Journey

Hola Amigos!

This post is actually really hard to write. It’s the final post of my blogging adventure. I know. I just grabbed a box of tissues too!

It’s been an honor being the voice of Limitless Colombia’s blog, but the real writers of these stories have been my friends at Liberty University in America. You can meet all of them on their Facebook page where they have been sharing behind-the-scenes photos and videos for the past six weeks. Three out of the four of them are not Colombian, but their hearts have grown so much for Colombia that I dub them honorary Colombians! Bienvenidos a la familia parceros!!

These four graduate students have been taking a semester long “Effective Social Media” course where they have had to learn how to use various social media platforms to create a brand (Limitless Colombia) that surrounds a cause (Internal Displacement Crisis) and raise money for said cause.

My four friends, Joy, Lisa, Katey and Isaac, not only had a presence on Facebook, but they also researched tons of interesting facts and statistics about Colombia for Twitter (@LimitlessCol) and posted the most beautiful photos of Colombia on Instagram (@LimitlessCol).

In the end, they also had to put on a live event. They created a Colombian cultural experience called !Viva Colombia! They played Colombian music, served authentic Colombian coffee, sold Colombian coffee grounds and other baked goods, as well as entered people into raffle drawings for Colombian inspired gift cards! By the end of the event they had raised over $300!

All of the proceeds will go to Senda de Luz, a church right here in Colombia that is trying to build a building where internally displaced women can attend workshops that will teach them necessary skills to get a job and provide an income for their families, as well as a place for children to go to get a meal and an education.

As I said in the first blog post, my name is made up, but my stories are real. All of my personal stories, are taken right from Limitless Colombia’s fourth team member’s own life.

Joy 02

Because Joy was born and raised in Colombia, it is really her heart that shines through the pages of this blog. She cares so much for her country and it’s that passion that has inspired others to join the fight to restore the basic human rights to her people. One day she hopes that Limitless Colombia will become its own non-profit organization so that she can continue to create sustainable projects and raise money to help people in Colombia. If she ever does, you all will be the first to know!

In the meantime, if we have touched your hearts even a little and you would like to know more about what you can do to help Colombian refugees, I highly recommend giving your time or your money to these organizations:

  1. World Vision
  2. Compassion International
  3. World Help
  4. Cultivando Sonrisas
  5. Hogar Esperanza

On behalf of the entire Limitless Colombia team, we thank you again for supporting our blog. It’s truly been an Adventure with a Purpose.

Chao!
